Virtual interdisciplinary collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic: pain and joy in an international joint university

Background The COVID-19 pandemic has brought interdisciplinary academics and research students many uncertainties challenges in adapting to new communication styles. Compared with other the same field, might face more transitioning from traditional face-to-face virtual communication. Objective This study aimed explore pain joy of using Western Chinese localized channels experienced ( N = 10) young 14) during pandemic. Among them, 14 are Europeans 10 Chinese. Method Meeting records participants' reflective writing were used as qualitative data. Results We identified five key themes: two tied personal behavioral issues, involved management one dealt topic choice issues. Conclusion Considering that teamwork is likely continue post-pandemic period, it necessary implement measures such technical training voluntary assistants help alleviate some issues make meetings difficult for participants. Study limitations future directions also discussed.
